Privacy policy

The short version

The Powerful Nature apps (Quake, Volcano, Storm and Fire) don't have accounts, ads or tracking. We don't collect, store, sell or share any personal data from the apps. What you set up in an app stays on your phone. The only personal data we keep is your email address, and only if you sign up for updates on this website, or a message you send us.

Your location

Location is optional in every app. If you allow it, your position is used on your phone to work out what is near you: the distance to an earthquake, a volcano or a fire. You can turn it off and choose a place by name instead.

Where an app needs a forecast for your place (for example the wind at your place in Storm and Fire), your coordinates are rounded to about 1 km before they are sent to the forecast service, Open-Meteo. Place names you type are sent to Open-Meteo's place search.

Data the apps download

The apps download public data from its sources: the US Geological Survey, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program, the US National Hurricane Center, NASA, GDACS and Open-Meteo.

Some shared feeds pass through our relay at api.nearspace.app (shared with our Near Space apps), which keeps a short-lived copy so the sources aren't asked the same thing thousands of times. Like any web server, it sees each request and the IP address it comes from. We don't use this to identify you, build a profile or track you. If the relay can't be reached, the app fetches the feed directly from its source.

The apps check a short list of announcements and a public events list now and then, so they can tell you about news or run their alert check sooner. These requests only say which app is asking: no personal data or location is sent.

Notifications

Alerts are worked out on your phone from the public data above, using your own settings. We don't run a push service that knows where you are or which alerts you have turned on.

Email updates

If you sign up for news and updates on this website, we keep your email address so we can send you those emails, no more than once a month. The list is held by our mailing service, MailerLite (MailerLite Limited, Lithuania), on servers in the EU, under a data processing agreement.

You first get an email asking you to confirm, and you are only added once you do. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can ask us at any time to delete your address. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.

Messages

If you send us a message with the form on this website, we keep what you write, the app it is about, the email address if you add one so we can reply, and the country Cloudflare reports for your connection. We don't keep your IP address. Messages are read only by us and deleted when no longer needed.

Purchases

If an app offers an optional upgrade, it is sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and the app only receives confirmation that the upgrade is unlocked.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies or tracking. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. The app previews on the website run in your browser and keep nothing once you close the page; their live data is fetched through our own site, so the data sources never see your browser.
